Lien se Lankstaanskoene by Derick van der Walt

Something for the poor, my koning

Tibbey is hit by a car at the robot where he begs for money, and a delivery truck drives over his legs. Lien hears the screeching brakes of vehicles and rushes towards the scene. She sees Tibey lying in a pool of blood with his eyes closed and not moving. Luckily a doctor is there to help, and Tibbey is taken away by ambulance. The doctor gives Lien a tablet to calm her down as she is shaking from the shock. The man with the freckles who usually gives her money offers to take Lien back to his house to get cleaned up. In the elevator, the man offers Lien a bunch of hundred Rand notes. She refuses to take it. He pushes it into her red bag. The man's daughter and wife are not home. When Lien stares out of the windows in the apartment, the man stands right up against her and strokes her hair. Lien freezes and goes cold. She eventually pushes him off, and he apologizes, amusedly thinking she was a prostitute. Lien takes the money out of her bag, leaves it on the counter, and walks away. She gets into a taxi and ends up in front of a church. She goes into the church and cries when the nun and three little boys sing a hymn. The song reminds her of her mom when she is yellow (drunk).
