Lien se Lankstaanskoene | Die afgevaardigde van Tibet | English Summary

Lien se Lankstaanskoene by Derick van der Walt

Die afgevaardigde van Tibet

Lien is still begging in the city with Roos and Tibbey. She encounters a car with a man with red hair and lots of freckles, wife, and daughter. The little girl innocently says hurtful things to Lien, making Lien angry, but she does not act on her anger. When the car comes around again, the man gives Lien an R50 note. Lien feels uncomfortable but takes the money and thanks the man. Lien discovers that Tibbey loves soccer and cannot pronounce her name, but she likes how he says it as it sounds exotic. Roos chases away another beggar who has taken Lien's place, and Lien and Roos begin to chat more. She discovers that Roos has a daughter who works at 'an agency' in the city, implying a prostitution agency. Lien's mother is very seldom sober, and Braam is staying over at his friend's house more often. Lien researches Tibet.
