Lien se Lankstaanskoene by Derick van der Walt

Báie sterker as Camel Filters

Braam walks to school with Lien and Wouter instead of riding his bike as usual. He wishes Lien luck as they enter the school grounds as he knows the story about their mom is ablaze. When Lien walks to the library, many of the kids stare at her. When she goes to the bathroom Sally Swanepoelconfesses to Lien that her dad also drinks too much and smokes something more potent than his Camel Filters. Sally comments that 'it is not their fault' and walks away without another word. Lien's mom is admitted to a clinic for her alcoholism. Tibbey also tells Lien 'it is not her fault' that her mom is an alcoholic, but this does not put Lien's mind at rest. When taking a break from the school play rehearsal, Lien and Hein sit on the pavilion. He plays the sad tune on his flute again. Miemie invites Lien to visit her for the weekend, but Lien is unsure. Lien thinks back to her old life and her two best friends. She thinks about calling them after a dream she had but decides against it. Lien worries about her mom being alone and whether someone will play music for her. She refers to her mom as alone and yellow (geel).
