Lien se Lankstaanskoene | Die Pussycat Dolls | English Summary

Lien se Lankstaanskoene by Derick van der Walt

Die Pussycat Dolls

Lien starts practicing for the school play in the evenings and struggles to connect with Maria. When she takes a break from practicing one evening, she finds Hein playing a sad song on his flute above her on the pavilion. Miemie gives Lien a lift home after practice each evening, and although Lien finds it uncomfortable, she is thankful for not having to walk after a long day. When Lien gets home, she finds Tannie Bets has left food for the family, and Lien is thankful. She counts her begging money for the day and discovers she has made more than R200. Lien thinks about the point of everything in the bath and wonders if there is a point to anything. When she walks past her mom's room, Lien peers in through a partially open door. She sees her mom sitting on her carpet with her earphones in and a wine bottle next to her. Although her mom's head is turned away from her, Lien suspects her mom's face is red and shiny, meaning she is happy and yellow like the daisies outside, implying she is very intoxicated.
