What’s the use?

Sylvia and Matthew are the only waiters at the restaurant (Pieter is sick). Three good-looking girls walk in and Sylvia asks for their drink order. They order wine because they are celebrating being first-year medical students. Matthew suggests that she go and ask them for tips on getting accepted but Sylvia doesn’t. When the night is over, Matthew and Sylvia sit down at a table. Matthew asks Sylvia to dance because he’s interested in learning. However, she doesn’t know how and they have a conversation instead. In the rest of this chapter, we learn that Sylvia has never met her grandparents, Sylvia and Hein are dating and Hein is on holiday in Durban.
