Tot Siens, Koning Arthur | Chapter 2: Jou gat, man | English Summary

Tot Siens, Koning Arthur deur Annelie Ferreira

Jou gat, man

In this chapter, we learn more about Sylvia’s mother. She has a day job, which is selling second-hand cars and telemarkets part-time. Sylvia’s mom is also taking care of Fransie (a four-year-old boy). Sylvia was meant to take care of Fransie but her community service got in the way. Fransie is four years old and dresses up as Superman. Sylvia and her mom have a conversation and in this, we see that their relationship is not great. Sylvia’s mom says that Sylvia has wasted her opportunities and life - Sylvia was destined for medicine but that dream hasn’t panned out perfectly. It’s also apparent that Sylvia’s mom got pregnant by mistake and too early in her life. We learn that there was another man, Schalk, and their housing arrangement was better when he was in the picture. More light is also cast on Hein in this chapter: It’s clear that Sylvia has a romantic interest in Hein (he is on her keychain and she says that he’s attractive and smart) but he has been away and is returning in more than a week. Sylvia can’t contact Hein via phone or Facebook.
