Chapter 2: Orkesoefening

Tiaan thinks about his friendship his Zane, which goes back to grade 3. He’d need a calculator to count how many times Zane has done something to get the both of them into trouble. They arrive at his classroom and enter to 20+ faces staring at them. Marx called them in to see the orchestra practice. Upon their entry, Marx asks them on their opinions of the postmodernist art movement. Their faces go blank and the orchestra members laugh. Liezl Kritzinger, the smartest and prettiest girl in grade 10 explains that postmodernism is basically commentary on older forms of art. Marx brings out the Mozart bust desecrated with Revlon Passionfruit red lipstick and presents it as a postmodern concept. Zane explains that they’re out of their depth – he only listens to rock music. Marx asks what kind, listing several different rock genres. Frik van Tonder, another orchestra member reveals that Tiaan and Zane have a rock band; however, when he asks for the name, Tiaan and Zane don’t seem to be on the same page.
