Chapter 19 - Part 1: Late in the night, Frankie sees a black cardboard rat with a red tail and a heart cut out from its chest, glued to her window. This surprises her rather than scaring her as this isn't an ordinary rat. Unable to reach it, Frankie curiously studies its red chalk-drawn tail running down the external wall of her house and disappearing amidst garden plants. She wonders who could've made the effort to climb to their rooftop garden to place this rat by her window, and why. She ponders potential intruders - people from her neighbor, Wacko's roof terrace. Despite the late hour and the rain starting to melt the rat's tail, Frankie's curiosity keeps her up. She's unable to go out and follow the rat’s disappearing tail due to the digital locks her mother invariably sets at 9 pm, locking her in with a curfew. Hindered by her mother's paranoid behavior, capped with her father being away for the night at a function at his cooking school, Frankie is left with the rat. She captures its picture before the rain can completely ruin it. The following morning, she races down to her kitchen, where her parents are surprised by her early movements on a Saturday. Frankie regards her window from a different perspective and spots the rat's tail pointing towards a flower pot at the top of the outdoor stairs. She quickly retrieves a book, covered in cling film, titled, "Banksy: Wall and piece". Frankie safely stows it away, just in time for her father's breakfast call.
