An aside is when the character voices their thoughts for a short period of time. This can be a confidential remark to another character or an out loud expression to the audience.

Eg. “Both her parents died a couple of years back,” said Mrs Manton in an aside to Betty

In the example above it is shown that the aside is being used as a confidential remark from character to character.
